The book includes two timeless stories by Kurt Tucholsky. In the short story Reinsberg (1912), student Claire escapes from the monotonous everyday life of Berlin and spends a few "bright days" with her friend Wolfgang. They travel by train as the "Gambetta couple" in the Brandenburg region, enjoy the beautiful scenery with the palace of Frederick II the Great, take a boat ride on the lake, stay overnight in a hotel. Teasing, painless fights, love. The young couple's childishness reflects the carefree atmosphere of the pre-war era. In the short novel Gripsholm Palace (1931), "Dundee" and Lydia, his beloved "princess", go on holiday to Sweden and lodge in a shack near a lake. During their idyllic stay there, the original duo becomes a threesome, an erotic threesome that even frees a little girl from the tyranny of the authoritarian director of a boarding school. This adventure marks the end of the holiday. Despite the playfulness that dominates the narrative, the author depicts the gloomy atmosphere of the interwar period.
